CIS Career Exploration Opportunities is free to Alaskan high school students, and it ...

  • provides a full school year of career-related curriculum, activities, and experiences 
  • encourages students to graduate from high school and receive post-secondary training
  • connects students with adults who can be helpful resources for employment opportunities
  •  offers experience with a variety of technologies such as video conferencing, Moodle, and web conferencing
  • engages students in projects and presentations -- job shadows and self-selected career projects are the focus second semester
  • addresses Alaska Standards in Reading, Writing, Math, Technology, Employability, and Library/Information Literacy
  • develops employability skills, attitudes, and values -- which in turn improves self confidence
  • allows students to earn credit and/or demonstrate proficiencies 
  • helps students learn to work and work to learn with their local teachers who guide, encourage, and assess
